Marketing On The Cheap

Monday, December 19th, 2011

Every business must have some sort of advertising. Conventionally, this has been fairly pricey, but it need not be, if you are advertising over the Internet. This is good for the majority of Internet marketers, as most Internet businesses have a small to non-existent advertising budget.

Whichever kind of business you have, you should consider promoting it on and off line. I find it easier to consider the off line aspect first, because there are fewer options than with on line advertising and they can often be dismissed. For most businesses, off line advertising usually comes down to newspaper adverts, sign-written vehicles, free ads and fliers.

These types of advertising are very valuable for local shops and local businesses such as builders, plumbers, poodle parlours et cetera, but they are relatively expensive. Here are a few unusual suggestions for off line marketing:

Try to give something away. This may sound expensive, but it does not have to be. For example, if you run a poodle parlour, you could write a leaflet on how to wash your dog or how to get rid of fleas. Advertise this give-away on line, in your shop window and in the newspaper. Encourage people to come into your shop to pick one up.

Ask your local newspapers whether they accept press releases. If they do obtain details of preferred length and subject matter and send them a press release whenever you take on new staff, win an award or start selling a new product or service. Press releases should be free of charge.

Next time their is a neighbourhood event, hire a stall and give a demonstration of what you do; take a survey of what you want to know; and hand out flyers. Stalls at Boy Scout Jamborees or Bring-And Buy sales are very cheap and you may meet thousands of people in person. Then give a press release out about the occasion.

Offer to present a prize at a local charity event and / or have the tickets made too. With your name on, of course. Hundreds or people will see you name associated with a good cause.

Run a competition with a prize. Run it in the local paper or from your shop. As a building firm, we once supplied a man Friday free for a day. It ran over a three week period and every week we required five trivia questions to be answered. The local paper ran it free of charge.

Thousands of people went in for it and our cost was a day’s salary. An old widow won him and she had him doing little odd jobs about the house all day while she made him tea and sandwiches and had a good old natter. I think it made her year, but it got us a great deal of goodwill and good publicity.

You could offer badges, coupons and novelties as lower prizes

Send out Christmas cards and promotional calendars to past and potential clients. A calendar will keep your name before someone’s eyes all year around.

You could offer free seminars on the key features of your business. If you could talk in the community hall for thirty minutes, you could take questions and answers afterward. Try the local Womens’ Institute.

Some of these strategies can be used to promote an online business or website too.

Making Money Online Through Affiliate Programs. What Are You Missing?

Sunday, August 28th, 2011

In the current economic environment is it any wonder that people are looking at alternatives to the conventional day job? There are many reasons why people look to working online as a means of income and it is important to recognise these reasons before entering into any online business.

There are so many get rich quick products being released these days, unfortunately most of them don’t work or perhaps are just missing a piece of crucial information. At the end of the day it is still worthwhile knowing the right way to do things properly. How do I know this? 5 years and thousands of dollars spent on these kind of products together with 20 years corporate experience have finally paid off.

I now know that there is nothing more important than understanding your circumstances, creating a plan and sticking to it. If you add this to a good basic grounding in Internet Marketing strategies you will very likely make money. I ask the following questions when helping people plan their business.

1) How Much Time Do You Have? In order to answer this you need to keep a diary of your movements for a week. Include social outings , recreation, anything that keeps you away from your computer really. If you don’t generally get home until 8 pm and are back at work at 8 am when can you really put time in to your business?

2) Do You Have Money? Yes, there are strategies to earn online without a lot of money but if you understand your own situation you can make a decision based on what will work for you. The last thing you want is to put yourself under further financial stress if you are doing this to make additional income.

3)What Are You Good At? What Do You Enjoy? This helps you to understand what you may succeed with. Personally, I enjoy writing so article marketing and blogging has become part of my arsenal but you may be different. By choosing something that you enjoy you are more likely to feel a sense of accomplishment rather than a dread of what you are about to do.

3) What are your goals? Ask yourself why you are doing this and what you want to achieve. Think about things that make you happy that perhaps you are no longer able to do. Maybe when you were a child you enjoyed painting and now it’s the last thing on your mind. Thinking about the little things like this as well as the big picture of “I want a house by the beach” allows you to make small changes and work towards a long term goal without feeling that you are achieving nothing.

4) Put it all together Once you have taken these steps you are in a position to see clearly how much time and money you can apply, and where you want to be and how you might get here. It’s now time to put it all together and work backwards to get a daily, weekly and longer term plan.

Of course these are the very early steps of your life making money online and you must apply the basics to whichever approach you take. I use a number of methods of Internet Marketing to ensure I have multiple income streams but if I do not stick to my tasks and remain organised it very quickly goes to pot. I have learnt about the many methods I use from one forum Bring The Fresh but the tools I use are separate to that and the final key that is often lost.

Personally, I use a suite of tools that I have built myself to manage my time, goals and business overall. I had to scrape things back to the core to understand what drives me to work at home and to find my motivation. I have used my background in Business Consulting and applied it to my own circumstances and now am working towards helping others to do the same.

To make people notice various promotional things, the social networks have become a really good place to build up some recognition.

However besides these social networking sites there is another option too which is through article marketing. In this way a lot of people may come and visit your official band site.

Through the good written articles you can divert some people towards your site. Your article must contain some information that compel the visitor to visit your site once and this was you can promote the band through article marketing.

Your article should somehow raise the curiosity of the reader and in the end set the links to your musical site so that the curious reader may to go and see the information he may be thinking about and hence your site would be visited. And you never know he may become your fan as well.

The article with which you want to promote your musical site should have an interesting title and then some fabulous beginning lines for the reader to continue reading the article and then at the end mention some general as well as your genre of the music your band would be playing.

The main body of the article is equally important and should contain the necessary information on the topic. A Guide On How To Market A Product

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011

The marketing style you have majored on might actually let you down if you are not very watchful. You could be doing a lot and achieving very little. There are ways of finding out. Take a look.

Talk LOUDER: Everyone knows that if you are trying to say something but nobody is paying attention, one of the options you have is to raise your voice. You might achieve something small by doing so but within no time, people are bound to switch you off as they do not get anything they do not know already. As far as they are concerned, they will think you are just repeating the same thing more LOUDLY.

It is very obvious in the face to face communication where you are holding a conversation. It is quite similar to the print media too because bigger fonts and more attractive graphics can be used to do the same thing – draw people’s attention to what you are telling them. There are better ways to do it.

Talk Non-Stop: Communication should be a two way traffic whereby you talk and also listen to others, so make sure you listen to others too. Which means as you ask the questions; you should also take time to show you have identified their issues as you are listening to their problems.

Repetition: This will let you down if you overdo it. People will let you repeat once or twice to stress an important or interesting point but if you belabor this, it will backfire on you. Some would be resentful thinking that you have belittled their thinking capacity. Know when to draw a line.

Talk frequently: If you have the habit of sending mail to your client once a month; keep it that way. If you suddenly begin to accelerate this to become once a week, for example, it will definitely bring a negative attitude from your clients. It would look like harassment.

Talk Nonsense: It does not add to anything, if you are going to use jargons which do not make much sense to a majority of your listeners. Keep your communication simple and easily understood. If you talk in some type of code or just pure nonsense, people will not take you very serious and just write you off.

On the other hand if you are on very familiar terms with the person you are communicating with, then stick to the method you are both used to.

How To Earn Online By Affiliate Marketing

Thursday, March 10th, 2011

Many people that are just starting out online with the intention of making some extra money always seem to automatically think of affiliate marketing a the easy way to do this. It is true you can make money from affiliate marketing but you have to be wary of the pitfalls just like any other business venture. Here are the pitfalls for you to watch out for when you are taking up affiliate marketing.

It really goes without saying that you should not try to promote any products that people are not interested in. It does not matter how much traffic you manage to generate and send to the website of this product because if people are not interested in it then hey will obviously not buy it.

Most of the good affiliate programs will already have useful resources at hand that you can use for your marketing campaigns. You should be able to just simply copy many of the banners and email sales letters and paste them straight into your own campaigns.

The majority of not so good affiliate programs that you will come across will give you nothing but an affiliate link for you to promote. You will be required to sort out your own campaigns with just this link. This can be very time consuming and not very productive or profitable.

Email courses can be good for people to get marketing knowledge from but joining these as a form of affiliate marketing is a non starter. You may receive periodic newsletters but these just go to collecting random emails that go onto mailing lists.

This is just one way of building up somebody else’s mailing list that hey can then use for their marketing campaigns and you do not feel any benefit from this type of affiliate marketing. So the main thing is to stay away from affiliate marketing of this kind.

As long as you are aware of the pitfalls that come with affiliate marketing and know how to avoid them then you should be able to make money online with affiliate marketing.

Creating Your First Internet Business

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

Starting any new business venture is expensive, stressful and arduous. Anyone who has started up a traditional business or an Internet business will realize that there is a lot of work that goes on that the customer does not see. There was a great deal of work done before the doors opened or the website launched for the first time. Launching your Internet business will take a great deal out of you, especially if you aspire to be up and running quickly.

Here are a few tips I can offer you to get you going:

Make a start-up plan. Write things down and tick them off when you have completed them. A start-up strategy for a new Internet business could look like this:

1] recognize a need

2] work out how you can satisfy that need by finding a reliable existing supplier or having the goods made for you

3] create a means of showing your prospective clients that you have what they require and produce a means for them to purchase it right away (a web site and a shopping cart).

4] ascertain your probable customers and tell them how they can resolve their difficulty

5] work out some realistic goals. Delineate where you want to be in three, six, nine, twelve and fifteen months ahead. Keep checking your results against these targets and endeavour to meet them. If you do not, work out why. If you do, reward yourself and upgrade your goals. Do not be too ambitious.

Select your domain (web site) name very carefully. I recently met someone who had clearly put a great deal of effort into a blog and it looked impressive, but a quick check showed that the name of the blog/website had not been searched for on Google even once in the preceding month. Do not permit that to happen to you.

If you had not considered the popularity of the name of your web site before you created it, grab the bull by the horns and alter it. Relaunch your web site with the new name. Swallow your pride. You can keep the subject matter.

Build a good-looking web site. You can have the web site crafted for you, but you will still need to be able to revise it, so you either need a working knowledge of HTML or you need a good HTML editor. Personally, I do not want to be a programmer, so I went for the best HTML editor that I could find. I use it every day and I love it.

You will need to host your web site. This is cheap enough, less than a hundred dollars a year, but you have to find a good host. Check how often they are down and check their other promises too. Check for statistics. Most supply statistics incorporated in the price, but some take it out of the package to sell them individually at a high cost.

Once you have gotten this far, you will have to inform people that your web site exists, because it is a falsehood that it will be found whatever. Millions and millions are spent on search engine optimization and traffic generation and there are thousands of books you can purchase and study on the topic. It is a gigantic and ever-changing technique that requires a study and another article all unto itself

Proof That Obstacles Can’t Hold You Back

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

Failure will come walking right to your door anytime you begin to hold back. It does not matter what level of success you have achieved. Put your heart and soul into something or failure will surely follow. Try this exercise to help you learn not to hold back. You will experience a new level of life.

1. What in the past have you wanted to achieve, made a couple steps toward it and then, pulled back? This is the area that you could succeed in if you would allow yourself to stop holding yourself back. This is the area or thing that you are not putting your heart and spirit into all the way.

2. Write a short statement (3 or 4 paragraphs is enough) about what would happen if you went all the way for this goal and did not hold back.

3. Make a list of three things that you in the way of you accomplishing this desire.

4. Write three action steps toward your desire that you could accomplish right now.

5. Make a commitment to do at least do these three things. No more and no less-just these three things.

Observe what happens to the obstacles that were in your way. Sometimes they will diminish or change. Sometimes they will completely eliminate themselves. These obstacles are replaced with other seemingly impossible and impassable things.

You will come to realize two things once you experience the “changing of your obstacles” in this exercise:

1. Challenges, problems, and desires will continually be in the way of your desires.
2. Should you continue to not hold back and to give it your all; obstacles will disappear, change or diminish on the way to accomplishing your desires.

All of us who are upgrading our lives to the next level will tell you that we faced obstacles, challenges, and insurmountable odds. This is the same for all successful people. But, we just keep going. Eventually, our success few bigger and bigger.

One of my personal sayings that I share with my audiences is, “The level of success for any person is directly proportional to that individual’s level of courage.” Please remember that courage does not relate to a lack of fear, but to doing things regardless of fear. You are giving your all and not holding back.

Amelia Earhart was the first pilot to fly solo across the Pacific Ocean. She proudly stated, “The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity.”

Don’t hold back in your life or with your dreams. Don’t hold back at all and see what happens. You’ll amaze yourself at the new power and level of success you’ll achieve rapidly.
