Make Money From Home – If You Can Drive You Can Do This

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

Whenever you jump into your car, with plans of reaching your destination, your destination is your goal. You are one place, and you want to get to another place. Therefore, you have to plan and take action to reach your destination and achieve your goal. The same holds true for those of us who have a goal to make money from home. Similar to when we set our goal and take action to reach our destination, to make money from home, you have to (i) determine your goal; (ii) determine how you are going to reach the goal; and (ii) make sure that you are headed in the right direction. Essentially, this set of criteria holds true for any goal, as you will see below.

1) Know Where You Are Going

When you get into your car, you usually do not do so without knowing where you want to ultimately end up. If you do not know where you are going, you will just drive around in circles and go nowhere. Therefore, if you need to get somewhere by a particular time, you need to know how to get there, and how long it is going to take you to get there. Thus, when you set your goals, you need to know what you want the end result to look like. For instance, if you want to make money from home, you have to define what this means. If you are at home, and get paid one dollar to fill out an online survey, you have made money from home. Would you be happy making $1 from home per month? I highly doubt it. Therefore, if your goal is to earn enough money to leave your nine to five, then you have to envision yourself getting to the point where you walk up to your boss and hand in your two weeks notice. Whatever it is that you have as your end goal, put it down on paper, just as you would an address which you were driving to.

2) The Course Of Action

If you are driving to a destination which you have been to a hundred times before, you have no need to ask for directions or map out your route. It is just something that you really do not need to thing about, sort of like a habit. Conversely, if you are going somewhere for the first time, you cannot get there without figuring out which streets you need to drive on to reach your destination.

Therefore, when we need to get to a place with which we are not familiar we consult with GPS, a map, or get some good directions. Of course, these things are not foolproof. Sometimes they let us down and we have to take additional steps to figure out where we are going.

This is not far from what we need to do to make money from home. We learn from those who know how to get to the goal, and follow their actions. We read their books, watch their videos, and emulate their actions. These moves take us closer to our end point.

3) Ensuring That We Are On The Right Track

So we know our destination, and have an idea of how to reach it. We are now driving along and hopefully heading in the right direction. However, we are among unfamiliar surroundings, so how can we be sure that we are going the right way. Did they say to take a left on Sixth Street or Sixth Avenue. I mean, you have Sixth Street written down, but Sixth Avenue seems to make more sense. Maybe your heard the directions incorrectly. How can you determine whether or not you are headed in the right direction? There are a few things that you can do. You can roll down the window and ask someone for directions. Or you can call the person who originally gave you directions. Otherwise, you can double check the map. Nonetheless, you have some options, and will make sure that you get to where you need to go. I strongly doubt that you will simply turn around, go home, throw on your fat pants, and eat a carton a Ben & Jerry’s while watching Seinfeld re-runs. Even if you had to retrace your path and get back on track, at least you will have learned something.

You may get sidetracked on your journey to make money from home. If you do, take care of it just as your would if you were driving. If you get hungry while driving, you simply stop and get something to eat. If you need to use the restroom, you find one and use it. But do you sit in the restroom all day, wondering why you are not where you want to be? Of course not. You take care of business, and you continue on your trek.

The message of the previous paragraph is that you never give up on your goal to make money from home. While there may be setbacks, dead ends, even car accidents, do not forget that you will never get there if you do not keep moving towards your destination. When that prospect says no, it is not a failure, rather, it is another mile under your tires. When nothing seems to happen for a long period of time, you are just getting closer to that next landmark. If you are not sure what to do next, never be too embarrassed to stop and ask for those directions.

Understanding Domain Names And Web Hosting

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Are you a new comer into the field of IT and desiring to start a career in website designing? To get you started, in this article I will give you a brief introduction on the technical matters you need to know.

Basically, the web is a group of interlinked computers communicating to each other. The computers are connected by cables, satellite signals and other type of mechanisms.

Computers can be connected all the time to other computers over the internet. There are computers however that are meant to be connected over the internet all the time, these are called servers.

Servers are very much like typical computers, the only difference is they are using specialize software and their hardware specifications are advanced than typical computers. Basically, the server contains websites. When people desire to access these websites through the browsers (Google, Yahoo) the server will send them out.

Now that you already know about servers, let us discuss about getting your personal domain name.

A domain name will be the address of your site in the World Wide Web. This must be a unique address. Now to be able to obtain your own unique address you have to buy it from particular vendors. You might be asking why you need to purchase and why you cannot just create your own domain name. Well the simplest answer for this is that there are companies who are making sure that domain names are unique, they update and take good care of those list and of course they need to be paid for that and that is the very reason why you have to pay when you get your domain name.

Now that you have your domain name, your next task will be to put that domain name in a particular server where it can be access by people anytime anywhere as long as they are connected to the internet.

Renting a server is like renting an apartment where you can stay. You need to rent the space. Renting a space in a certain server is called hosting. There are many companies providing this service and they are often called as “hosting companies”.

As a summary, when you create your website, you need to buy your domain name and then find a reputable hosting company where you can save it and have it available to the world wide web users anytime anywhere. There are a lot of companies who are offering both services together, so less troubles for you.

How To Buy Online Advertising

Friday, June 4th, 2010

Online advertising is a form of advertisement that uses the power of Internet and World Wide Web to attract customers. It is rather a collective term for several forms of ads done online. Some of its popular forms are search engine optimization (SEO), search engine marketing (SEM), email marketing and banner ads.

Online advertising is becoming more and more popular over the traditional advertising because of its benefits. Its biggest benefit is that information is made available to the viewing public in a very little amount of time and in a wide geographical area depending on the advertiser’s requirement.

One more benefit that is greatly appreciated by the marketing industry and the companies performing the advertisement is that the return on investment (ROI) can be well measured.

There are several means on how online advertising is being purchased;

1. Cost Per Mille (CPM) This is also known as “Cost Per Thousand (CPT)”. This model pertains to advertising bought on the basis of impression. For example if a website sells banner for $5/CPM implies it cost $5 to expose the banner to 1000 views.

2. Cost Per Click (CPC) This term is used interchangeably with pay-per-click (PPC). In this model of advertising, advertisers pay their host only when their ad is clicked. Consider Google AdWords as an example. You have to select your keywords and place a budget. When somebody searches on Google and matches your keyword then your advertisement will be exposed usually on the upper part of the search results page or on the right hand side depending on the budget you have set. When your advertisement is clicked then Google will bill you for that clicked.

3. Cost Per Action (CPA) This is an online advertising model where advertisers pay for each successful conversion only. That is for example, I am running advertisements for spa, the goal I have set for my clients is that they will pay only for every successful appointment made to their spa.

For advertisers, this is the best way to engage online advertising as the return on investment is easily checked.

What you Need to Know About Business Cards, Yellow Page Ads, And Val-Pak Coupons

Sunday, May 16th, 2010

Today’s business person is faced with many decisions when it comes to marketing and advertising. How to get started and what media to use in your marketing campaigns are just a couple of the immediate challenges. The reality is that all of the options available will work to one degree or another. The key to your success, regardless of the medium you select, is to differentiate yourself in a manner that appeals to your prospect. When you understand this, you can be successful regardless of your selection.

Too often people follow the generally accepted trends and styles. This happens with the clothes we wear (anyone remember Beatle Mania?), the beer we drink (what age are you?) and the way we advertise in things like the Yellow Pages. Try scanning the Yellow Pages and you will see page after page of similar looking business card layout and wording. What happens is we start to mentally purge the look-a-likes and carry on until we see something that is different.

The most interesting, and different, ads that I have seen appear as a public service announcement. They have headlines like: Warning! Don’t Even Think of Using a Travel Agent Before Calling FREE Traveler Awareness Hotline! Copy below this ad would offer free advice on how to book the best rate for your next trip. I was scanning the travel section because I was looking to book a trip. This advertisement, because it was different, caught my eye. To make it really successful it also had an 800 number at the bottom to call for a Free Report. There was no sponsor so the whole presentation was non-threatening. I was given a safe way to get information I wanted without having to speak directly to a Travel Agent whose job it is to push, and sell me.

The same method can be used regardless of the medium you select for your advertising. Be it Yellow Pages, Business Cards and Val-Pak Coupons. The key is to use the criteria that make it different, interesting and non-threatening. As much as the principles are basic – there definitely is an art to this type of marketing.

I recently came across a company that, over the last 12 years, has developed automated systems that allow business people to incorporate any type of marketing advertising into an overall Marketing Strategy. That company is Automated Marketing Solutions or AMS. They differentiate themselves by not only providing solutions, but by educating their customers on the proper techniques to use including how to create the right message by medium being used. And it doesn’t stop there. AMS provides the capability for a company to place their ENTIRE Marketing Program on Auto-pilot. Once a business marketing program (including voice messages, e-mails, faxes and other broadcast and mail out collateral) is compiled and sequenced, their Lead Management System or LMS provides the unique ability to manage and control that program without any further human interaction.

The benefits to this system are significant time savings on what would otherwise be labor intensive tasks. It also allows for consistency in marketing messages. It means that businesses never need worry about losing customers who misinterpreted your lack of contact for lack of follow up. If you would like to hear more about Direct Response Marketing and how it can benefit your business, visit Automated Marketing Solutions today. How to Improve the Usability of Your Ecommerce Website

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

When building an online marketing strategy it is not enough to consider improving the visibility of your website through social media marketing or making your website number one in search engine rankings. There is nothing worse than succeeding in getting potential customers to your website and then losing them because of a poor usability design of the website. There are a number of online businesses losing sales on a daily basis and most of them because of ignoring the importance of usability on their site. Using our experience in managing eCommerce websites along with a brief research, we have identified four main areas online businesses should focus on: Shopping Cart Usability, Checkout Process, Website Navigation and Social Media Usability.

Checkout Process

* Don’t ask your shoppers to register for an account before adding items to their cart. If they have to go through the registration process first, they might see the process as too long and complicated and leave the website. * Make the font for the “add to cart buttons” large! It will make it easier for shoppers to notice it. You may as well want to consider different wordings to improve shoppers’ experience. * An ecommerce site needs to give easy access to its shopping cart on all pages of the website. * Show related products (or an option like amazon.com has “Frequently Bought Together” or, “Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought”) to the shopper when they add a product of their choice in the basket.

Shopping Cart Usability

* Recognise repeat customers with their e-mail addresses * Include a bar that tells the users at what step in their checkout process they are and how many they have left till the end. They need to know where they are and how long the process will take. * Tell shoppers where they are and where they are going. * Show all costs as early in the process as possible: the price of the item, amount saved, any applicable shipping or taxes. This will eliminate all possible misunderstandings and will increase trust of your brand. * Since shoppers are asked for their debit card information at checkout, security issues must be eliminated! Keep security badges and trust certificates in place so shoppers can see your site is secure. * All order details must be included on the checkout confirmation page. * Don’t overload your checkout page, it might drive people away. Try to break up the ordering process into smaller bits. * Give shoppers the option to confirm their order before buying. * Highlight required fields by putting a symbol “*” means that these field are not optional. This makes it easy for the shopper to skip the optional information. * Design a confirmation page that will include all details necessary to the shopper. * Send them a confirmation e-mail providing all information to the user

Shopping Cart Usability

* Use Headlines and Subheadings explaining shoppers exactly where they are and suggesting them what type of information they can find on each page. This will increase the usability of your site and make people less likely to bounce out your site. * Contact information and Call to action should always be displayed. While targeting online shoppers, never exclude the possibility of getting users that may wish to do business with you over the phone or via email. * The search function must always be easy to spot on all pages of the site. Shoppers may want to query the site for one particular product or information. It can be included near the top or middle of the page as well as on the sidebar. * To improve users’ search option, it can be refined offering a drop – down list with the main categories or most frequently searched keywords. * On the product pages, giving the option to refine product results based on their price, size, shape or colour also increases the website’s usability. * Content is also essential from a usability point of view. The product description included on each page must be able to answer all questions a shopper may have. * Avoid using jargon language, words that are not widely known by your targeted audience. It will confuse users and drive them away from the site.

Website Navigation

The usability of an ecommerce website, its checkout process, ease of using the shopping cart are of utmost importance for increasing conversions. If an online is not user friendly then it reduces the conversion rate and hence the sales of from the store. For all online business users who want to increase the selling potential of their website, the factors mentioned above must be kept in mind at all times.
