How to Open a Clickbank Account

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

Once you have decided to use Clickbank for your Internet marketing business you will need to open up an account. Though the process is the same, it is a good idea to know beforehand if you are going to be a product seller or an affiliate. If you are going to be an affiliate, you can open up the account at any time and save it for when you have found a product that you want to sell. When you are signing up as a product seller, however, it is best to wait until you have a product for reasons that will be discussed momentarily.

Start by going to www.clickbank.com and click signup on the right side. Notice how you will automatically be moved to the promote products section. This is done to make signing up more simple so do not be alarmed. All of the new users are redirected to this screen.

After this fill out the fields. Clickbank mails checks and needs a Tax ID after registration, so it is essential that the contact information you provide is accurate to avoid your payment being posted to the wrong address.

After completing all necessary information, choose an account nickname. This name will allow you to take advantage of “Hoplinks,” which keep track of affiliates by redirecting through Clickbank. However, these links are so ugly that people may believe they link to attack sites.

As such, you need to make sure you have an account name that matches the product you are selling (because your account name is inside the Hoplink) or at least hints at it so that the link appears more legitimate. As an affiliate, the account ID can be broader, though it would still be helpful if the link matched things you are selling. It simply becomes less important.

You will be sent a password that is equally as ugly as a Hoplink and completely unchangeable. Because of this, it is very important that you write down your nickname and password, as the consequences of losing either of those can be dire. It is very hard to retrieve lost information.Once you have entered all of that data you can click submit and register.

One of the reasons for writing down your nickname is that it is possible to create a website using an affiliate nickname. You have the make the website run on its own for a few years and eventually completely forget what the nickname was. That is the joy of passive income as you can continue to receive checks even without any contact with the Clickbank site, but it also means that you can potentially forget the ID, which can make it difficult if you need to change something in the future.

Once you have entered in the password you have officially registered. If you would like to sell a product, go to the account settings, click on my products and click add new product to get started. If you would like to become an affiliate, click on marketplace and search for items to affiliate with. Click on create hoplink, enter your nickname and you will be provided an affiliate link to sell the products.

Attention CB Affiliates: The Clickbank Refund Secrets Revealed

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

If you’re a Internet affiliate that promoting Clickbank products, you will probably notice that there is a 90-day refund policy for each product.

Refunds can kill your profits! Lots of sales means nothing if your referred customers request their money back.

Refunds can not be totally avoided. What you should do is to choose the right products when you start promoting. Calculating the average refund rate of the Clickbank product that you want to promote is a good way to decide if promoting it is worth your time and efforts.

Visit the Clickbank Market Place, you are provided with some important payout stats. Every product at Clickbank has some information attached to it, which can help you determine if it is a quality product for you to promote.

%/sale: How much you earn as a percentage of the total price of the product, the commission rate.

$/sale ($Earned/Sale): The average net amount earned per affiliate per referred sale in the past considering refunds and the Clickbank fees. With this number, you can have an inner look at the real performance of the products you want to promote.

The average refund rate of a Clickbank product is: (Affiliate Commission – $/sale)/ Affiliate Commission = Average Refund Rate

Affiliate Commission= (Product Price – Product Price * 7.5% -$1) * %/sale

For example, you check the Clickbank marketplace and see the price of Confessions of a Lazy Super-Affiliate report is $29.95, $Earned/Sale is 19.97, and the commission rate is 75%. So the affiliate commission of this report is 75% * (29.95-29.95 * 7.5%-1) =$20.03 and the refund rate is (20.03-19.97) / 20.03 =0.29%. Yeah, it’s one of the lowest refund products I have ever seen.

The normal refund rate of Clickbank products is around 10%. With a 5% or less refund rate congrats you find an excellent product. With an 20-25% (or higher) refund rate you should consider promoting other ones.

And you should beware that you can’t calculate the refund rate with any accuracy if a Clickbank vendor is selling different products with different prices. You can actually tell if this vendor has multiple products. Type payment URLs like this in your browser: http://1.vendor.pay.clickbank.net/, http://2.vendor.pay.clickbank.net/… If you get a 404 error on http://2.vendor.pay.clickbank.net then this merchant has only one product in the clickbank marketplace.

Another factor is when vendors change their pricing. You should realize that if a vendor offers different products/price this isn’t going to work either.
